Maurice Sendak received the1964Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are. In 1970 hereceivedthe international Hans Christian Andersen Medal forillustration,and he remains the only American ever awarded thishonor. In 1983Sendak received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award fromthe AmericanLibrary Association, given in recognition of his entirebody ofwork.
